Aisle Tally

Accessibility

Aisle Tally should be easy to read for everyone planning a wedding, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, zoom or a small phone. We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we do

  • All text is real text, never a picture of words, so it can be zoomed, read aloud and translated. The site’s name at the top is type, not an image.
  • Every photo has a written description of what it shows, and the photographer’s credit sits under it as text.
  • Tables have a header row, so a screen reader can say which column a number belongs to.
  • Text and its background have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1, and links inside the text are underlined, so nothing relies on colour alone.
  • The pages are built to work at 200% zoom and on a phone screen. A wide table scrolls inside its own box instead of moving the whole page.
  • Everything works with a keyboard, and nothing on a page moves, plays a sound or times out on its own.
  • Each page has one main heading, and the headings under it follow in order, so they can be used to jump around.

What is not perfect yet

  • Some of the longer cost tables can be hard to follow by ear. If one is, write to us and we will send the same numbers as a plain list.
  • The site has not had a formal audit by an outside expert yet.

Tell us about a problem

If something is hard to read or use, write to hello@aisletally.com with the page’s address and what went wrong. We aim to answer within five working days, and to fix it or send the same information in another form.
