Aisle Tally

Privacy

Aisle Tally is a set of wedding planning posts. You can read every one of them without an account, a sign-up or a cookie. This page says what the site records while you read, who else sees it, and how to ask about it.

What the site records

When a page loads, our own server writes one line about the visit into the site’s own database:

  • the page’s address and the time;
  • the site that sent you, when your browser says (Pinterest or a search engine, for example);
  • your browser type, so robots can be told apart from people;
  • your country, as Cloudflare reports it.

To count a visitor once a day instead of once per page, the server mixes your IP address and browser type with a secret that changes every day, and keeps only the scrambled result. The IP address itself is never stored, and the scrambled key can’t be matched to you or to your visit on another day. The daily lines are deleted after 30 days. What stays after that is the totals: how many people read each page on each day.

We use these numbers to see which posts help and which ones need work. They are never sold, shared or joined with anything else.

What the site does not do

  • No advertising, and no ad network’s code.
  • No third-party trackers or analytics: no Google Analytics, no Facebook or Pinterest pixel.
  • No affiliate links. If a post ever carries one, it will say so at the top, and this page will change first.
  • No cookies of ours. WordPress, the software the site runs on, sets a cookie only for the site’s author while signed in to write. Comments are turned off, so there is no comment cookie either.
  • No fonts, scripts or images loaded from another company’s servers. Everything a page needs comes from aisletally.com.

Cloudflare

Cloudflare sits in front of the site. It delivers the pages quickly and blocks attacks, so, like any network provider, it handles your IP address and the request on their way through. If Cloudflare ever has to check that a visitor is a person, it may set a short-lived security cookie for that check. Cloudflare’s own policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

When you write to us

Mail to hello@aisletally.com goes through Cloudflare Email Routing to the mailbox we read. We use your message and your address only to answer you. We don’t add you to a mailing list, and we delete the thread once it is no longer needed to answer you or to fix what you told us about.

Links and photos

Posts link to their sources, and the photo credits link to the photographers. Those sites have their own privacy rules once you click through. Every photo is stored on our own server, so looking at one tells the photo library nothing.

Children

The site is written for adults planning a wedding. It doesn’t knowingly collect anything from children.

Your questions and choices

Ask us what we hold, or ask us to delete it, at hello@aisletally.com. The page-view record holds no name, IP address or cookie, so we usually can’t pick one person’s visits out of it, and it deletes itself after 30 days. Anything you sent us by mail, we can find and delete.

When this page changes, the date below changes with it.
